Ghana anti-LGBT bill 2021, Archbishop of Canterbury criticises.

Ghana anti-LGBT bill 2021, Archbishop of Canterbury criticises.

The Archbishop of Canterbury has expressed “great concern” about a planned Ghanaian law that would penalize LGBT people severely. Despite a previous agreement by the Anglican churches not to promote discriminatory laws, the Anglican Church of Ghana supports the project.

The bill has been dubbed the “highest discriminatory legislation ever” by advocacy organizations. In the West African country, heterosexual activity is already criminal by a three-year prison sentence. The law wants to increase the maximum sentence to ten years in prison and to subject some persons to “reparative therapy,” which aims to change someone’s sexuality. Cross-dressing and public displays of same-sex affection, as well as the publication of pro-LGBT material by news agencies or websites, are all declared illegal and punishable by fines or imprisonment. With over 70% of the population affiliated to various Christian faiths, Christianity is the most popular religion in Ghana.

In the coming days, Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, who serves as the symbolic representation of Anglicans worldwide, will meet with the Anglican Archbishop of Ghana. “We are a global family of churches,” he said, “but the church’s mission is the same in every culture and country: to express God’s unconditional love for every human being through Jesus Christ through our actions and words.” Although the Ghanaian Anglican Church has previously stated that it “does not condemn individuals with homosexual tendencies, but strongly condemns the immoral acts and activities they engage in,” it has yet to respond to his statement.

IGP: Dampare offers GH¢50,000 bounty for information on robbers who killed 2 officers at Zuarungu

Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Ghana Police, has set a GH50,000 bounty on the heads of the armed robbers who shot and killed two police officers in Zuarungu, Upper East Region.

When he arrived in the area on Thursday to express his condolences to the regional police command for the loss of the two officers, he made the announcement. On Wednesday night, two officers on night patrol, Constable Emmanuel Akowuah and Constable Mohhamed Sule, were slain by suspected armed robbers.

So, what went wrong?

Two of the Ghana Police Service’s policemen were killed by armed robbers in the Upper East Region, according to the Ghana Police Service. “On 15/12/2021 at about 20:20 hours, there was a distress call to the Zuarungu District Command that there was an ongoing robbery at Zuarungu Market,” according to the police address.

While men were being organized to respond to the robbery, another distress call came through saying two (2) police officers had been shot dead. A team of police officers led by the Bolgatanga Divisional Commander C/Supt/Dela Dzansi and the Regional Crime Officer Supt/Reuben Dugah arrived at the crime scene and discovered a burnt Service Motorbike No. GP 2311 parked outside a provision shop. Spot investigations revealed that No. 56205 G/Const. Emmanuel Akowuah and No. 57658 G/Const. Adam Suley were on the aforementioned Service Motorbike conducting routine patrols when they unexpectedly emerged at the heist scene and were fired on.

” According to eyewitnesses, the officers who died on the site were also partially burned by fire, which they believe was caused by a leak in their motorcycle’s gasoline tank. Before a police team arrived, the criminals left on a bike following the crime.

Mr Baba Akolgo, the robbery victim, was approached by the police. He is a 51-year-old businessman. Three men entered his ‘provisions’ shop, he said and demanded that he hand up his money. Mr Baba Hunded the money under duress. The robbers made off with GH2,000.00 after he gave in.

Residents have been assured by the IGP, Dr Dampare, that the police will be ruthless in apprehending suspected armed robbers, dead or alive. He also urged public members to come forward with information that could lead to the arrest of the criminals.

Facebook Accused of Another Scandal in 2021.

Facebook Accused of Another Scandal in 2021.

Facebook is no newbie to controversy, and it is once again in the limelight, unfortunately for less than pleasant reasons.
Employees of the Mark Zuckerberg-owned social media company, as per Wall Street Journal (WSJ), have easily made measures to curb right-wing platforms, over manager reservations, in order to avoid future political clashes on its platforms.

Recent complaints about Facebook’s apparent bias in political news have sparked internal arguments among Facebook managers and employees, with fears that the social media company is treating news providers differently depending on their political viewpoint.

According to the Wall Street Journal, there have been instances of Facebook employees hating Breitbart News, with personnel chasing the website’s ‘News Tab’ function, where some information about protests following George Floyd’s murder was removed off.

Following an employee’s concern about removing Breitbart from Facebook, a senior researcher said, “I can also tell you that we witnessed declines in trust in CNN 2 years ago: would we adopt the same strategy for them too?”

“We need to gird ourselves for more terrible stories in the future days, I’m afraid,” Facebook Vice President of Global Affairs Nick Clegg had warned employees.

Clegg’s statement might be taken as proof positive that Facebook has been showing prejudice and boosting political ideas at the expense of others on its site, and it adds to the argument that it favours profit over its users.

Perhaps, with a new whistleblower coming out on Friday to inform the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) about Facebook’s endless disregard for worries surrounding the spread of hate speech, as well as rolling out false information out of fear of jeopardized monetary growth, it appears that new voices are rising against the California-based social-networking giant’s alleged misconduct to its teeming users.

Although the identity of the whistleblower has not been revealed, the individual’s testimony was given under oath, with the individual further stating that a Facebook communications official named Tucker Bunds saw hate speech as a “flash in the pan” and that, despite “some legislation getting pissy,” Facebook is “printing money in the basement.”

This follows a recent TechBooky’s piece in which a former Facebook employee, who first came out as a Whistleblower, accused the business of prioritizing profit over the well-being of its users. In her statement to the SEC, Frances also pushed more employees to come out and speak against Facebook’s habit of expanding its financial development at the expense of its users.

6 years Jail Time for Takoradi Woman in latest kidnapping Saga

For faking her kidnapping, the 29-year-old woman from Takoradi in the Western Region was sentenced to six years in prison with hard labour. On Tuesday, October 26th, Joan Krah was found guilty and punished in Takoradi Circuit Court A, presided over by Michael Ampedu.

Ms Krah fabricated her kidnapping on October 22 in order to extort $5,000 from a family member. She worked with two others to commit the crime, according to authorities, after which she called her godfather and requested the ransom. The suspect appeared at the Takoradi Central Police Station on October 23 after the father reported the event.

Her first offence was the deceit of public officials, for which she received a six-year term. For her second conviction of disseminating fake news with the intent to incite fear and terror, the defendant was sentenced to two years in prison with hard labour. The court reduced Ms Krah’s entire sentence to six months after she expressed regret during her initial appearance on Monday, as well as the fact that she had a three-year-old kid. The ruling was made to convey a strong message to people not to get involved in what appears to be an expanding trend of fake kidnappings, according to the court.
